Question How hard is it to apply for a 175 Visa yourself

I have checked and i qualify for a 175 visa so want to start the application, however many people have said i should go through an agent. Most of these want around 2,000. This is a lot of money to pay out if filling in the applications are not too difficult and the process is reasonably straight forward.

Any views or opinions on this would be great.. thanks!

If you have any background in filling out forms, taxation and other government stuff, DIY should not be so difficult and in fact Immi records indicate that more people DIY than use agents.

As for getting the data to go into forms and documents to accompany them, you'll still need to do that if using an agent.
If you have not yet had a look at all the Immi site info available, check out in particular the eligibility and applying for this visa sections where there is a Checklist and read Booklet #5? is it or #6
There're heaps of links to additional info that usually have answers to what may concern people.

Take some time over that for right at the moment Immi is in final throes of getting new regulations ready for publication and we have a sticky thread on that.
Essentially the government is focusing heavily on Employer Sponsorship and State Migration Plans [ to be announced, hopefully within a few months ] and though it has stated that there'll be transitional plans for people applying under the current SOL/CSL up to the end of this financial year, it could be the transition will mean that second or third billing will be taken behind the ES & SMPs and so a lengthy wait [ several years perhaps, maybe to eventually have application terminated ] could be in store.

Agents can also only really surmise [ a nicer word than guess ] for what will be can only really be known when the new regulations and transitional arrangements are known and even then with capped immigration numbers there can be a lot of uncertainty for lower priority applications.

I went through migrationexpert.com and paid about $400 for what amounted to a detailed .pdf of how to apply, and a couple free phone calls. It was helpful, however I think I could have done it myself. The australian immi website has pretty much all the info you need, but it is nice to be able to reference another source to be 'sure' about what's supposed to happen.

I found this site after I had appplied... I wish I had found it sooner!
