Police checks

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are putting together our appliation form for an 886 visa and understand that we need police checks

I am a British Citizen so I assume no issue but here is where it gets tricky:
My boyfriend is on a South African passport, he has lived in the UK for about 10 years and has permenant residency (he is waiting for news from the Home Office to see if his British passport application has been accepted) - does he need to get a police check from South Africa AND the UK or just the UK?
If he does need an SA check - has anyone does this before??

Many thanks for your help

The requirement is for PCCs for any country that has been lived in for 12 months or more within the past 10 years, details @ Character Requirement - Applications & Forms
though COs can vary that in some situations such as say he has been in the UK for 9 years and 3 months, they may still require a SA PCC.

You could elect to just do it in the first place as per the requirements and if a SA was required you'll be advised or get it done anyway.
It may even be that who is primary applicant and who secondary that could affect a decision by CO.

btw , re the 886 visa, I take it you been studying in Australia and your Bf here too for you will also need Australian PCCs as well and with the overseas PCCs, if you have not left Australia since studying commenced, any PCCs done for prior to entry for that should be acceptable.
