Unhappy Using an agent?

Hi

In the meantime of waiting for DIAC to accept applications again for 175. Does anyone have advice on the benefit of having a migration agent handle my case? Does it speed up the processing at all? I'd like to think I have a pretty straightforward application.

Im planning to apply for 175 with an ASC skills assessment for IT Manager. I have 2 dependants 12yrs and 13.5 yrs - no custody issues as their father was taken in a fatal car accident last July 09. Im Canadian but still going to write the IELTS test in July and have medicals and police checks almost complete. Considering to apply for state sponsorship for Far North Queensland. I'm single so no partner applications

Am I missing anything? Any advice or recommendations welcome!

I am sorry for your loss rainbowchaser and hope life is as good as it can be for you as you continue on and yes, if you have a straightforward application you should be able to handle it yourself.

A couple of things I would suggest though is not to do the medical nor police checks until requested for with possible time to processing the first could be out of date and the second considered not recent enough when a CO gets around to considering your application.
And with an initial Immi acknowledgement email or in checking online, never be mistaken with references that something is being shown as required for that is just the terminology for status and you always need to wait for a specific request from a CO.

Re the state sponsorship which can make your application considered as a 176 or if you were to apply for regional sponsorship you ought to then be looking at the 475, you may just want to take into account how the new State Migration Plans could affect yours, link on new priority processing @ http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...df/csl-gsm.pdf
and effectively, state/territory sponsored visas will be down the ranking after employer sponsorship and the SMPs and so that could actually mean a wait of a couple of years or more, it being a bit indefinite actually.

An agent will not help with that and in fact I have seen quite a few references to where people struggle to get clear explanations from agents.

With your choice of FNQ, a great place for sunny winters if rather hot, humid and often wet summery weather, the occasional cyclone threatening, I can understand coming from a cooler Canadian climate, that it will have its attractions but do bear in mind that job opportunities will be more limited and if there are thoughts of sand and the beach to go with warmer weather, FNQ beaches are often a No No during hottest months because of various things in the sea that can have lethal stings.

I'd set your sights on somewhere between the Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast for work, good beaches and still mild winters and where the sea is less threatening in summer.

Thanks for the quick response... I'm more confused now lol... just when I thought I had it all figured out. Best case scenario would you recommend applying for state sponsorship or just wait for the new SOL. No worries about me choosing the FNQ because I actually know friends there.

Here's another question ... if I apply for a 175/ 176/ 475 would I be required to work in my specific field or would I be able to apply for other jobs to ensure I'm working.

Thanks again... I new to this forum but loving it.

Seing as applications are not being accepted at the moment for the 175/176/475 and the suspension unlikely to be lifted until the new SOL is announced, and that could well be simultaneously with the SMPs, you've not got much option but to wait and then on their announcement you'll be able to assess where you may be priority wise with a state sponsorship or SMP and that will also depend on Queensland government action as well.
I have read elsewhere that Queensland have also suspended sponsorship applications for now too.

If you have friends in Queensland, you may want to lean on them a bit re scouting around for employers that may be looking for someone with your qualifications/experience and able/prepared to sponsor, that being by far the quickest way to get to Australia if successful re finding a sponsor and then you know you'll initially at least have employment.
Employer Sponsored Workers - Workers - Visas & Immigration

With the 175/176/475 you are free to find employment in any field though the 475 does have the regional residence/employment requirements to be maintained as per Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475)

A sponsorship via a 176/475 is btw not a sponsorship to a job as headings could be interpreted, but merely that a state/territory have an occupation listed on demand lists [ but that being no guarantee of work for the situation will and does vary and lists are no so often updated. ] .
