New in Forum and need info

Good day to all

I am quite sure lots lots and more lots this is matter brought up, but been trying to look around and nothing matches to bring me answers.

The case is as follows

Applied for Engineers Australia last February as marine engineer via a lawyer company based in Sydney who claims to be ok to apply either via this position or ships engineers.

Together with the applications, career episodes, police records, medical etc etc etc, sent to the lawyers who states it has been resent to Engineers Australia.

After 3 months waiting, now they come out saying in order to review my engineer skills, EA require around another 2 months. I had to call over and over to find out that.

My question is if anyone else is subject to the same waiting time and most important, once approved, how long will the visa take to be granted if Engineers Australia takes 5 months?

I am applying under skilled migration etc

Thanks and best regards from Miami

It will depend on what you were actually applying for which should have determined the correct path, for if it is a shore based Marine Engineer occupation that you have with particular qualifications, the IEA may look at assessment under engineering technologist. Engineer - Engineering Technologists not elsewhere classified 2128-79 - Australian Skills Recognition Information
If so and you do not have the degree based qualifications but substantial experience they may consider looking at assessment on that basis which means you need to complete a specific process for that, details on the IEA site.

If by Marine Engineer you however mean an on ship engineer, it is likely a ships engineer under Sea Farer occupation you ought to have been looking at - Seafarer - Ship’s Engineer 2542-15 - Australian Skills Recognition Information and the IEA is not the relevant assessing authority.

I've never heard of any occupational assessment organisation requiring police reports and medicals for that is a visa application requirement.

Without knowing of your background, qualifications and experience it is difficult to assess just ehether the Sydney solicitor is on course for you but it does seem strange for them to mention both Marine Engineer and Ship Engineer as being options.

If you eventually get an assessment it'll need to be an occupation on the new SOL - http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...ccupations.pdf , engineering technologist not there nor Marine Engineer but Ships Engineer is.

So you really need sorted what occupation you're looking to be assessed for in the first instance.
Following a successful assessment it'll then depend on what visa class within the skilled stream you'll be looking at which will determine how long an application could take, Employer Sponsorship being highest priority.

What I posted for sirtcp about priorities and numbers is relevant for you [ forget the ACS bit ].

Morning

Thank you for the great response.

I applied for engineer technologist.

Background is 8 years at sea from cadet to 1st engineer on both motor and steam and now almost 3 years shore side as superintendent, from your comments I hope they will consider this time and experience.

My intention is to settle down in Australia and apply for a Navy job shore side which matches my past experiences since shipping in Australia is not too big.

I can see you either in shipping or like it a lot by the pic.

thanks and let me know any further comments based on the explanations here, I am just concern, taking so long (since February)

Alan
