176 Visa finance & accomodation

Hi

I am a PR and planning to sponsor my bro (civil engineer) on a 176 visa.

Could someone please tell me what the expectations of DIAC are in regards to finance and accomodation? All that is mentioned is that the sponsorer has to sign a document giving assurance regarding finance and accomodation for 2 years but nothing specific - approximate amount?? accomodation lease???

Could someone also tell me the expected processing time.
Cheers

(P.S. Plan to submit the application after the temporary suspension is lifted.)

In addition to what's on Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176) have you read the applying for this visa section and you'll find a link to http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1277.pdf

I would expect that Immi will have some concept of what it costs to support an immigrant [ and family if included ] and re accommodation cost for starters, that could be zilch if he is to live with you but if planning to be independent, then you would need to look at what your local costs are.
But see what is required in the sponsorship application form and use that as a guide.

The time to wait for having an application considered and then processing time itself is somewhat indeterminable and Immi suspended taking applictions because of the numbers build-up, something of a flood possibly re people wanting to use the CSL.

If you look at http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...processing.pdf you will see that without the CSL being any longer available, he'll be well down the list re priorities and I would expect there to be a substantial backlog of CSL applications to be worked through.
That will only happen as numbers of employer sponsorship and State Migration Plan visas ahead will allow and I would expect that there will be many independent skilled immigrants considering lodging via State Migration Plans [ yet to be announced ].
