Australian Spousal Visa

Hi there,

My partner and myself are in the process of applying for the Australian Spousal Visa. I am Australian and he is from the Ghana. I believe we have most documents necessary for the application although feel that we may be lacking in the financial aspect of the required criteria. We met in Ireland 3 years ago and have been living in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) for the past 2 years. My partner has experienced substantial discrimination here in the Middle East (due to the color of his skin), and has been on an appallingly low wage so therefore I have been supporting us both, I am concerned that this will go against us. We do not have any joint accounts or any legal documents with both of our names on them as we are in shared accommodation. Any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Ruby and by having documents at hand it sounds like you have done some reading and that's good for starters and if you haven't already, do also have a good read of the Booklet#1 for there is some detail in there.

Having shared accommodation means you'll have limited evidence but if you can get statements from others that you have shared with, that's also better than nothing and if it is possible to get something from a landlord or agent that'll be even better and of course get some statements from people who know of your relationship and can testify to its length.

One of our posters elkitten spent a lot of time getting together supportive financial evidence using separate bank accounts so do also have a read of a thread she has posted to summarise what she did - http://www.australiaforum.com/visas-...visa-tips.html
LovedUp that has posted there also has a similar experience to you, her partner being from Nigeria I think it is, so looking up her posts could also help.

You earning more income than him should be no detraction but in offering up a precise concise timeline of your relationship dates/events, it'll do no harm to give a brief description of reason for income/expenditure balance.
In looking at employment/incomes, that'll be considered as to whether they feel an AoS will be necessary but if you both have solid employment histories that'll be in your favour.

Hi Wanderer,

Thank you very much for your advice. I have read elkittens post and found it to be very helpful.

Thank you once again.
