Please update your flag here .

Processing of an application for subclass 175 may take several months. Make sure you have submitted all required documents, including your skills assessment, medicals (your doctor should do this) and proof of knowledge of English (IELTS, if applicable for your country), and you should have no problems.

For eVisa applications, it is simple to keep track of your VISA progress through the DIAC portal.

Oct 2008 is indeed a bit of a long wait. I would send them an email with your concerns (you can find the contact form on the DIAC website). You should get a reply within a week.

Submitting the medical and PCC with an offshore application will always carry the risk of them being out of date when your application gets around to being considered.
Yours will be out of date and you'll need to do them again but do wait until requested

Your application went in on the cusp of the GFC and as a result of that Oz Immi have had a huge increase in applications and this also occurred with Oz Immi reviewing the full Immi scene and making some interim changes along the way in regard to setting priorities to manage the situation.

There are many occupations and applications that are ranked with a lower priority and it could be quite a few years before anything happens or alternately you may be offered the opportunity to withdraw your application and have the visa application fee refunded.

Sending emails to Immi will likely get you a very standardised response.
The latest advice re priorities is http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...processing.pdf

Yes, you can apply for a state sponsorship and as for what state may be best for someone with a trade of fitting, there's different aspects you may want to consider, ie.
WA for instance has allegedly had a huge demand people generally in the resources sector in remoter regions, though that can be variable depending on stage projects are at, effect of GFC and our own government new taxation plans, both of which can and has caused closures and of course what nature/level of experience in particular various organisations may be seeking.
I would suggest that you do some searching via resource projects and employment agencies to attempt to get a feel of what employment prospcts could be in WA and also in eastern states that some people may leave to seek higher paying work in resources industries.
At the same time, though work in eastern states may be spread more broadly across different industries, the cheaper labour markets abroad has also caused quite a few industry closures in Australia, thus making employment in Australia not guaranteed for new immigrants let alone even people here already.

The best approach anyone can take is to seek an employer sponsorship and they are not so easy to come by, itself an indication of economy health.
You may also be best to wait until the details re State Migration Plans are released as that could offer a higher priority for you and certainly better than sponsorship if so.
It may be possible that you'll need to revisit the IELTS, doing some work with the english to get a score of 6.0 in the four sections.

well a piece of advice i can give is fill form 956 and send it. when i inquired on my sis-in -law's paper based application, they asked me to fill that form and send then i could follow up from there.

the form refers to migration agents.. but if u dont have one get somebody close to u to apply as an exempt agent. any paper based info is provided then. u can track your processing.

hope this helps.
