clarification on 12 month tourist visa

Could someone please clarify..this is how I understand it, when the 12 month visa is issued it could have ( but not always) a latest entry date on it, so for example I get mine December, latest entry date is May, am I correct in thinking all on the one visa I could go to Australia in December, the couple weeks before May go to New Zealand and re enter Australia before May and my 12 months starts ticking from then??, if this is so can you also go to New Zealand on the exsisting 12 months visa, or do you need to get an ETA, the latter being the case does the ETA not over rule the 12 month one?

I know 12 months one is likely to have no further stay endorsement on it, but would be beneficial if I could manage to get more than 12 months entry on the one visa.

Im sorry if this has been answered before I can find lots of references to popping over to NZ but just wasnt sure how the whole thing worked.

Thanks in advance!

Yep, the 12 months ones can be like you say and once issued, you would use that one for heading to NZ and back.

clarification on 676 tourist visa

I just wanted to clarify one point on the 676 visa.I have a 12 month tourist visa issued in May09 with the latest entry date being April 10,with 3 months maximum stay.
Does this mean that if I enter Australia in April 10,can I extend the visa by 3 months till June 10?
Sorry if this has been answered before but I could not find it and I thought I would just ask you Wanderer.

Seems like they have given you a three months visa rather than a 12 months one and it will be for three months from whenever you enter which can be up to April 10.
So you'll not need to seek an extension unless you want to stay longer than three months.

Thanks Wanderer. Its actually a 12 month multiple entry visa with maximum stay of 3 months each time. Its nice to know I wont have to take an extension for an entry in April for stay upto 3 months.

I've read this post and another hinting that Immi aren't granting 12 month 676 multiple entries with a max stay of longer than 3 months anymore, i.e. you cant get the 6 or 12 month max stays. Is this true anyone out there in the know!?

Another poster had posted recently on getting a 12 month visa but he was only intending to enter once from what I gather,
Have a look at an application form and see what options are on offer may be the best bet, not to say what you ask for you'll get for Immi will look at what is requested and review it against their requirements.

Hey all,

Well I did get that 12 month visa, but with a 3 month max stay each time, valid for 1 year from mid July 2010. Very happy with that.

These are gonna be a dumb (few) question(s), but is a duration of 2 months and 29 days in the country acceptable?! Do they actually count 3 months as 90 days? Or 3 calendar months?!

Also are Immi going to get anal at the airport on your return if you just fly out of the country for 1 day?
