this is great news. We are going to apply, and we called up and asked about ID (my american partner was short of the required ID) and they told us to submit a copy of his visa and some stat decs about our situation and it should give us a good chance to get registered.

I hope it all goes as well at it has for the others on here

In what state are you applying for it if I may ask? Victoria or NSW?

I applied in Victoria too.

@Coyle: You need at least 4 weeks because they don't register it before the 28 days are over. Hope you have that time!

Good to know about it... I sent them a message and got the same answer that it was unlikely I would get my relationship registered because I'm on a tourist visa... The thing is that I had a work visa before and just got a tourist visa coz I need to accomplish with that stupid 12 months thing for the de facto visa... I might try again and see what happens! Congrats to those ones who got it...

One thing that came out of another thread re spouse visas is that a nominal six months relationship is expected for a married couple though it alone is not the determiner on whether a visa would be granted or not.
So with a relationship registration waiving the 12 months defacto requirement, anybody getting a relationship registration can expect that at least a six months relationship may be required and even more if Immi start to form the view that people are out to manipulate the system.

Congrats! My partner is also from the US on a Work Holiday...we applied and were knocked back in VIC. Are you in VIC and if so, did your partner have any previous visas, or any future visas, in Aus? We were told it was because of the WHV that we were rejected...though we managed to get them to hold the application rather than reject it outright so now we are in the process of appealing the decision. Any advice you could give would be incredibly helpful...or even if we could quote your case?

Congrats again
