WHV 6 months limit question

Hi I have a question.. I'm working at a employer at the moment and he likes to keep me longer than the 6 months. So I send out an e-mail to immigration and got back that they can only extend the 6 months for different reasons than I have and then only for a short period to. But I read also that you may work with the same employer but in a different position.. So i'm wondering now can I stay here if I will go and take a different position?

Anybody been in the same situation or can help me?

Thankyou!

Your employer will need to sponsor you on a temporary working visa, subclass 457, if they want to employ you beyond 6 months.

Not sure were you read that “you may work with the same employer but in a different position” as this is not correct.

I likewise am surprised that Immi would even consider an extension with the same employer for over six months for whilst there were possibilities for that when the limit was just three months, it has not rated a mention since, the reasoning by Immi being that a WHV is for some work to supplement a holiday and not to be another form of a work visa.

As aba indicates, if the work is of a skilled nature and meets eligibility requirements you may want to discuss the potential for a 457
Employer Sponsored Workers - Workers - Visas & Immigration

Alternately, if you can go and do three months regional work so as to qualify for a second WHV, you could work for the same employer for six months on the second WHV.
