can we apply pr and 485 visa at the same time since i am applying pr on base of old school. i an thinking applying 485 and pr both before july 1 and if i get IELTS 7 within 28 days, i will withdraw 485 and if not then withdraw pr and continue with 485...........is that possible. what bridging visa are we given when we apply both visas..............my student visa expires on 30 august so i will be withdrawing one visa before that.................

You can have more than one visa application in at the same time though there may be restrictions re visas of the same class I'm not 100% sure on and it's best you check with Immi.
You can have only one granted at anyone time and the 485 will likely be granted well before a PR and rather than withdraw your PR application would you not be better off to leave it so at least it would be in the system for withdrawing will not really achieve you anything.
You'll get a bridging Visa A to kick in once your student visa ceases if the 485 had not already been granted.

Thankx for your continuous response, i really appreciate that . Do you have any idea how long will it take to get 485 granted.??? I am taking a risk of apply 885 with competent english and I hope i will be able to provide result of proficient english within the given time i.e 28 days to provide the evidence of english requirement. If I dont get it this time I know I will have to back off with the withdrawal of 885 to be in safe side as it would not meet 885 point system and its requirement as well. As you know that my course is no more on new SOL and that is the reason I am taking this risk applyinf 885 and 485 at the same time and withdraw either of them with the situation at that time which will be within 28 days and before the end of my student visa (30th Aug 2010). My only concern is which bridging visa will I be on A or C.....???? I asked this wid immi officer and they said that it is better to withdraw rather than getting rejected.....
