Humanitarian Visa application

I sponsored my son via humanitarian visa two years ago, he did his interview also his medical checks, because we didn't get any news till now, I decided to travel to Au embassy in Iran with him to see what is the delay for, the CO gave him another medical check as they are only valid for one year, he mentioned that everything is done in here and I can not do anything more for you, as we are waiting for his police clearance from Australia.
This is really frustrating for me and my son because we don't know how long more we have to wait. Its been 2 months since the second medicals.
So is this it? do I have to sit and wait for nothing?
Or I can track this from somewhere else?

Thank you

Unless your son has also actually been in Australia, it would not be an Australian police check required and the CO may have meant a character check that gets done by the Australian authority ASIO.
They are known to take about six months or more for as you can imagine doing checks on someone who is overseas does have its complications.
The ASIO workload has also increased considerably of late because of requirements in regard to asylum seekers arriving by boats and the Immigration department can only wait on ASIO to give them a report.
Who is Eligible? gives some indication of the processing and there you'll see reference to some aspects that can affect the process.
At Client Service Charter you'll see something that is somewhat more specific in that a target is for 75% of applications to be processed within 12 months but that information is always based on older data 2008/2009 as you can see and the situation has changed in regard to asylum seekers increase I've mentioned.
So yes, there is waiting involved.
