Question Working Holiday Visa- $$

Hey all--

My boyfriend and I will be going to Australia on work-and-holiday visas (coming from the US) in September. I'm concerned about the financial stipulations, namely:
Will we be asked by immigration officers at customs to prove that we have $5000 AD? Do they ask everyone this?
How do we prove that we have the money? Will a paper copy of a bank statement suffice?
What if the money exists in the form of a limit on a credit card?

And, for anyone who has experience with the work-and-holiday visa, will we actually need the $5000? (Not with the immigration officials, but in getting things set up before we land jobs)

Thanks for any help you can give!

Margaret

It seems there is not much asking that goes on about the money for WHVs or W&HVs and a bank statement and/or credit account balance is fine.
$5000 can be used up fairly quickly depending on how you budget, style of accommodation etc., especially if you head for somewhere like Sydney where competition for work will also be fiercest.
In the travel section there are a few posts with some tips.
