Australian Federal Election For August 21

I've made a few comments on some threads in recent days re the possibility of an August election and impact that could have with particularly the skilled visas prioritising given most states had suspended their sponsorship activity until such time they had State Migration Plans developed and that would have included approval by the Immigration Minister.

The election per heading has been announced as August 21 and what usually happens is the government goes in to caretaker mode until election results are known without any new policy development.

It could be that seeing as the prioritisation legislation is already passed, approval of SMPs could still occur though the Minister will also no doubt be looking at his own electoral program.

Only time will tell.

Does the election affect other visas?... Like spouse applications?

Not that I am privvy to what the Immi department does but I'd expect that all government departments do continue to function mostly as normal for you cannot have a complete govrnment function shutdown during campaigns.
The skilled visas I mention specifically because of the changes that have not yet been fully implemented.

Skilled Migration and Government changes

Is there two types of sponsorships by Government?

1. Occupations nominated by government

2. Sponsorship under State Migration Plan

Could someone help me on this...

Further does anyone have any ideas when the new arrangemnets will be be made available regarding the above..

If I have already applied for a sub class 175, is it possible to get into one the above categories?

Thanks in advance
Read the Immi information and if you have a query put on a new thread rather than just select any thread.
I'll delete this post in a couple of days.
