Exclamation Subclass 885 - nomintated occupation

Hi,
I was always wondering about that but now it's time for me to ask the question. I am about to complete a PhD degree in Australia. My question now is if any of the skilled occupations giving me 60 points (and for which I am eligible of course) are acceptable or if my nominated occupation has to be related to my PhD.
My specific case is that I have done a PhD in optometry research. I have studied as well as completed an apprenticeship in Germany before that. Since my optometry degree is not recognised in Australia I cannot nominate that as my occupation. However, I have completed an apprenticeship as an optical technician and that is recognised. I have also checked the new SOL lists, and it says that applicants eligible for transitional arrangements (which I am) can use list 2. List 2 still has optical mechanic and optical technician on it. So the question is, can I apply for 885 using the 60 points for the optical technician?
cheers

You'll find the study relationship on Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885) and I suppose on one hand a qualification of a research doctorate or whatever it is you receive may be considered well beyond that required for a technician it'll be up to Immi to consider whether it is closely related enough.
Based on the PhD content and what a technician does you're probably in the best position to consider that yourself.
