Geez, i was relying on the emails from AustraliaForum as to whether or not there were replies to this thread. And there is a LOT more information that i need to add in terms of what went down with the timeline.

So from February to March, we just waited and waited. We heard absolutely nothing until the 6th of June, where we got a "request for information" from IMMI. It was pretty much a checklist it seems they send out a month prior to when they start really looking at it. But what they DID give us was the details we needed to go and get the health examination.

On the 27th of June, we were given another request for information where we had to supply my mothers certificate of citizenship (as my birth certificate alone doesn't prove that I am an Australian citizen), a state police check which was surprisingly simple to get in Michigan and the health examination which we hadn't been able to get yet.

Silly me, I was under the impression that the FBI clearance was enough. I must have misread the requirements for the state police checks that were needed in addition to that.

This request for information was sent by an actual person, rather than addressed from "The Australian Embassy", so I was taking that to mean we had now been given a case officer.

On the 8th of July, Rachel went across the border near Detroit into Canada to get her health check done at Windsor.

Two days ago, we received an email from the case officer saying. "I can confirm that your medical clearance has been received. Pending final assessment, your application is on track for finalisation in August 2014."

So yeah, that's the story so far. I'm just hoping that the visa is cleared in time for her and her family to book flights over in time for our wedding scheduled on the 4th of October.

---

I have a bit of a question which is what I originally came to ask before seeing a bunch of posts on this thread that I had never seen before. Given that we were told the visa would be finalised this month. Is it safe to start booking flights?

My only worry is that we would end up booking flights and either it taking longer to finalise or worse, it would be rejected as I'm currently between jobs. I was wondering if i could get some advice regarding this.

Thanks.

I really doubt your visa is going to be rejected, but personally I either wouldn't get tickets yet or I'd get tickets you could change the date on if you had to. DC almot never gives a date when they're expecting to finalize at all, so the fact they did makes me think there's a really good chance you'll indeed get your visa in August... but at other embassies, applicants are sometimes told they're on track to get their visa in a certain month and still end up waiting... so I don't think it's 100% sure.

Yay congratulations!!!!! I'm so happy for you, and also so happy to see your approval only took 6 months! You don't have to change your wedding date

I'm curious about not having the details you needed to do your medicals until June- I haven't filed my application yet but I thought I would be given a HAP ID number straight away so that I could go ahead and do my medicals.

I have to travel from Portland to Seattle or San Francisco to get mine done because of the emedical requirement. The San Fran Dr. won't book an appointment until I have a HAP ID, and the Seattle doc books a month out. I currently have an appointment with the Seattle doc for Sept 11, thinking I'd have my HAP ID by then. Seattle is more affordable in terms of actual checkup costs and travel costs, so that is my preference (I have to get checks for me and my two kids).

Can anyone tell me if I can get my HAP ID quickly so that I can keep the appointment?

Thanks!

I think it might be best to cancel the appointment and wait until they give you one. I have the feeling they don't like you actually getting the medical checks until they're ready for them which is why they give you the HAP ID a month before they start looking at the application. That and the medicals are apparently only valid for a certain period of time.

If you've only recently sent in the application then it will be a while before they get you the HAP ID. I know it kinda sucks, but it might be best to wait it out.

Hap id

Im kinda confused about this waiting to be issued a HAP ID thing. I got my hap ID online before i even launched my visa application.

My Health Declarations

I know it tells you to only get one once you've launched visa, but they're trying to protect you from your visa not being approved before your health exam expires (1 year from date of the exam). Be advised that if it does, you'll have to pay for the medical exam again.

I have a bit of a quick question since my fiance will be flying to Australia in less then three days. With the immigration forms they give you on the flight into Australia (http://www.immi.gov.au/managing-aust...ipc-sample.pdf), would my fiance tick the box for "Migrating permanently to Australia"?

It seems a little ambiguous considering that the PMV is technically a 9 month temporary visa, albeit the intention of migrating permanently. So I'm unsure of what to tell my fiance to select.
