Question Engineer + wife visa query

Hi,

First of all, sorry for my lazyness, there is just such a wealth of information on this site, some relating to my situation and some slightly different. I thought it might be easier for me to post up a few questions and see if anyone has the answers at their fingertips -

1. I am I chartered civil engineer in the UK, currently applying for jobs and hoping to get sponsored by a company. I have no health problems or criminal record and I am 30 years old. From this info, is the visa likely to be a formality or is it questionable whether it will be refused? I should add that I am looking to permanently relocate to Aus.

2. My wife is also from the UK, no health probs, no criminal record. If my visa is granted, will she automatically get the right to work in Aus on a spouse visa?

3. Which specific type of visas will we both need and will they be processed simultaneously?

Many thanks.

1. I do not know that I'd describe any visa application/grant expectation as a formality but you do on the face of it have reasonable eligibility stats.

2. A wife can be on a visa application as a secondary applicant and yes on granting she'll have the same residency/employment rights.

3. If you're seeking an employer, you could look at either employer sponsorship, first cab of the rank @ Workers - Visas & Immigration and also top priority for processing or an independent skilled visa, second cab of the rank there but lower processing priority.
Depending on what type of CE experience you have or work you may be interested in, you may want to check with regional city/councils on Capital City fringe etc. for civil engineering positions as many people seem loathe to move away from cities and thus perhaps a better chance of an employer sponsor and the bonus of smaller cities offering a far better lifestyle
