Two old romantics!

Hi, I don't know if anyone has had a similar experience or if there's anyone that can help us but we're two aging internet lovers, one from UK and me from Australia and we've decided that we're right for each other and want to make it official and get married. He's applied for online help to come to Aus and has answered all the questions but is there anything we should know before we muck it up?? Neither of us are rich by any means and want to do this as cheaply as possible. Its enough cost just starting a new life. Thanks Julie & Robin.

Hi, first of all, have you ever met in person, travelled together, or lived together for some time?

No we haven't. We've just talked on webcam, phone etc. We're going to meet in the near future. I know we have to have photos to prove we did spend time together.

I'd suppose the best thing for Robin to do would be to first come out on an eVISA [ free ] or an ETA the latter $20 but it'll not have a No Further Stay condition as the EVisa likely will.
Visa Options - Tourists - Visitors - Visas & Immigration
To get an ETA, he'll need to see a travel agent as if he applies himself online his application will default back to the Evisa but depending on how you want to handle the next steps it may not matter.

Basically you have the choice of him getting a partner visa which means you have to either have ben together for 12 months, get a relationship registered [ which means having been together a considerable time ] or get married.......or he applies for a PMV , details via.
Family - Visas & Immigration

The PMV may be the easier option though it does mean being outside of Australia to apply but if you go down that path and Robin did not need to go back to the UK straightaway or at all, he could nip over to NZ apply and then re-enter again while waiting for it to be granted [ and he'll need another trip back there or somewhere else outside of Australia to have it granted ].
Doing it that way may will mean the ETA is the better option and also will give you the option of getting married and applying for a partner visa when he comes to Australia.

If he is looking to save a few bob and has not yet booked an airfare, have a look at Welcome to AirAsia.com, The World's Best Low-Cost Airline as they have cheap flights from Stansted in the UK to KL and also from KL to Perth, Melbourne or the Gold Coast.

Thanks Wanderer, there is just so much to take in and if its not done right then it will take so much longer and cost more. What do our governments have against love :-( No doubt there will be a heap more questions to come. I'm so glad I found this site. Thanks J & R

It's not so much that they're against love and if so there'd not be so many different family stream options.
But like any area of government regulations it's not the best to have one for every case nor so flexible thay can be bent wilynily.
So just a case of people identifying what the best approach is.
