Police clearance, certified? Send directly?

Hi there,
My partner and I sent our subclass 309 application to the Washington DC Embassy this morning. While we await news, I want to go ahead and request my police check documents from the FBI and also NY state.

However, I'm wondering how to do this. May I request these documents now, have them sent to my home, and send them myself to my case manager when they are requested? OR, must the immigration office receive the documents directly from the FBI/NY state?

Also, does the immigration office require these to be certified documents?

Thanks for any and all advice. How did everyone else go about this step?

Thanks again, K

Go to your local police station and see if they will do the fingerprinting x 2 -
one to be sent to the State Police and one set for the FBI.

Get the address of where to send your state fingerprint request - you will need the fingerprint card, money order or credit card details + covering letter and fill in forms for both requests. Also include a pre-paid envelope for return delivery.
It is always best to send these requests with a tracking number so you can be assured that they were received.
Both State Police and FBI return the request information back to the sender. You then have to forward that to your CO in Washington( with a photocopy included), whereas the Medical results are forwarded directly from the clinic to the Embassy.
I have just recently done this and found that the State Police report was returned in 10 days.
The Medical Results took 3 weeks to be received by the Embassy
The FBI report i have just received today, 9 weeks after applying.

Because the CO will be receiving the original documents + a photocopy of these documents, they do not have to be certified...as they can see the original! Always photocopy everything you send off, for your own records!

Hope this helps...........everything is in the booklet and the Application Document checklist is also available on-line through immi. I had to read and re-read!
