Permanent resident/Citizen requirements

Hello, my background is that I studied in Australia for a master degree between 2002-2005 and I was granted permanent residentship in 2005 but as I was about to start my new professional life in Australia I learnt that one of my close ones did suffer from terminal illness and I really felt I had the obligation to be available for the few remaining years left. I am afraid I not longer have this reason to stay in my home country and now plan to emigrate to Australia and start the new life and eventually applying for citizenship.

My two questions are:

1. Is it sufficient for me to just stay in Australia for 2 years nonstop in order to acquire another 5 year return VISA that would allow me to travel back at times?

2. I learnt that there are two citizen requirements that are pre 2007 and 2007 and so forth I when the times comes I not sure which requirement that would be applicable in my case so I really would appreciate some clarification about this as I found the web site a bit contradictory at times.

Yes, if you're in Australia for two years you should be able to get a RRV and it'll be post 2007 and four years residency you'll need for citizenship.
