Yes the visa can take upto two years AFTER you are successful with ACS assessment. I have submitted by visa online on first week of sept and I haven't been assigned a CO yet however it does now say "processing commenced".

Which lawyer are you using in Dubai? I hope you've checked his/her credentials as there are quite a few unauthorised ones. You can visit the MARA website to check his certification - https://www.mara.gov.au/

In my opinion you can save thousands of dollars (approx 4,000 US$) by NOT going through a lawyer/agent if you wish to migrate to Australia as the entire migration process is crystal clear on DIAC & ACS websites compared to other countries' immigration websites. A lawyer also cannot influence your application in anyway so whoever claims to do that is most likely not telling the truth (common in Dubai!).

I didn't go through a agent/lawyer and have so far haven't faced any difficulty and I have also passed my ACS assessment online in two weeks as a Software Engineer.

Best of luck anyways.

Thanks for information, to be honest I didn't know that it could take up to 2 years...
The agent I am with is on MARA website, and so far he is not bothering me...

To be honest you are right about saving money, but for a big step like that in my life, I would be sure that there is nothing is missing...
So far my status is still TBA, I wish it get done a bit quicker, I am System Analyst....

Cheers,
