Question Stage 1 Partner Visa: Medical Before or After Submitting?

Hi,

Do we need to wait for IMMI to state where and when to go for a medical after submitting a visa application or is this something best undertaken before submitting the application?

Got pretty much everything perfect but the when of the medical and x-ray has me stumped.

Regards,
Richard

It has been a rule of thumb that when submitting onshore Immi never so much encouraged doing the medical up front but there was an inference there to say it'd not hurt and with applications from outside Australia it may be best to wait until requested by a Case Officer.
The main reason for waiting is that if processing of a visa gets delayed for any reason you could end up with a grant approaching or passing the 12 months validity date of the medical and just how long processing can take will depend on many factors including whether you're from a high or low risk classification country.
If being a Dick means you're from the UK/western Europe, Canada or US, you are LR and if you wanted to take the above risk and do your medical earlier you could and it might save you a month or so in time but if you otherwise have your application ready to submit, including character check, you might as well put it in now and you can book a medical in the next month or so.
Follow the links on health requirements under eligibility and you'll find listings of approved MOs for wherever you are.

Hi, we're both in Oz and my wife is from a low risk country.

We need to submit our application before the end of October when her current visa expires. Is it better to submit the application now and wait for a case officer to instruct her to undertake the medical & x-ray? Or is that something we take ownership of?

If we do the medical now, do we have to wait for the results and might not that be some weeks?

Thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Richard

It's really up to you and you can make a booking for your medical at the same time as putting in your application or after and no need to wait on Immi or the medical results if you do that first for the results will be forwarded direct to the Immi health people.
Have a good read of the Health requirements for all details are there and make good use of the Checklist - http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/_pdf...-checklist.pdf
