Stat decs?

Just a quick question...

My partner and I are about to apply for our de facto spouse visa and are getting everything we need in order before submitting it.

We have asked his parents (mum and stepdad) to do stat decs, and they have of course said they would love to...

So my question is, do they need to use the form 888, or can they just write out a statement on normal paper and have it certified etc, or using a typical stat dec form to write the statement is better?

Also, in regards to proving they are citizens, I do not believe either of them have passports....birth certificates maybe, but from what I seen, the document has to have their current name...

"Evidence of the personís Australian citizenship or Australian
permanent resident status must be attached to this form (for
example, a certified copy of the birth certificate, Australian
passport or passport containing a permanent visa). Such
evidence must show the current name of the person making
the declaration."

So what if they have gotten married, etc. since then? Is there any other proof they can give to show Australian citizenship? Will a birth certificate suffice even if they have married and last name has changed?

They are both older...and we are trying to make the process as quick and easy as we can for them. Thanks in advance!

To save any complications I'd use either the 888 or you can get statutory declaration forms from post offices and maybe even some news agencies may stock them and nothing to stop you buying just one and doing a few photocopies and then as well as supplying birth certificates a marriage certificate to support name change or the mum could just sign using her maiden name or as some people do is to sign with the married name followed by " nee maiden name "
