Welcome. I'll append the entire bridging visa grant notice so there can be no ambiguity regarding what happens after the travel facility expires. Key relevant portions in red

Note the following:
1) No mention of BVA
2) The wording is almost identical (except the travel portion) to the earlier BVA grant letter
3) No mention of expiry or any sort, only Must not arrive after 20th June; meaning technically the visa does not expire but remains in effect until decision is made.

About your bridging visa

This bridging visa allows you to remain lawfully in Australia until 28 calendar days after you are notified of a decision on your application for a Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner(subclass 820) visa.

If your Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner (subclass 820) visa application is refused and you apply for merits review of that decision within the required timeframe, this bridging visa will allow you to remain in Australia until 28 calendar days after you are notified of the review outcome by the merit review tribunal.

If the merits review tribunal remits your application to the department for reconsideration, this bridging visa will allow you to remain lawfully in Australia until 28 calendar days after you are notified by the department of the decision on your Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner (subclass 820) visa application.

If you withdraw your Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner (subclass 820) visa application or your merits review application, this bridging visa will allow you to remain lawfully in

Australia until 28 calendar days after that withdrawal.

More information about bridging visas is available at wwwimmigovauAustralian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection

Travel overseas

This Bridging visa B replaces the previous Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B granted in association with your application for a Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner (subclass 820) visa.

Your Bridging visa B allows you to leave and return to Australia on multiple occasions until 20 June 2014. You must make sure that you return to Australia before this date.

If you are in Australia after 20 June 2014, this bridging visa allows you to remain in Australia, but not to travel overseas again, until your substantive visa application is decided.

When you are outside Australia on your Bridging visa B you are still required to provide any information requested by the department within the prescribed timeframe. Failure to provide requested information within the prescribed timeframe may result in a decision being made on your Partner (Temporary) (class UK) Partner (subclass 820) visa application whilst you are outside Australia. This will have an impact on the expiry date of your Bridging visa B.

Permission to work

When your Bridging visa (class WB) is in effect, you will have full permission to work.

Permission to study

When your Bridging visa (class WB) is in effect, you will have full permission to study.

So basically they replace your BVA with a BVB, and the BVB has temporary travel rights? Then you remain on the BVB (even if the temporary travel rights have expired), until your partner visa is granted? That's good to know.

I wonder if you need to travel again, do you simply ask for the travel rights to be added to your BVB again?

Seems like that's the case. Yeh I was wondering what happened if you needed to travel again. I asked the question over in the ask mark thread, before all these answers were posted, so will see what he says

Just apply for BVB again . .. and of course $140

Under Visa requirements for BVB at DIBP website, it BVB is for existing BVB holders too.

Bridging visa B – BVB – (subclass 020)

It states,

Requirements

You might be able to get this visa if:

you are in Australia
you already hold a BVA or BVB
you have applied for a new substantive visa that can be granted to you while you are in Australia.

I postal mailed (with a 60 cents stamp affixed to envelope) duly filled pages 3-8 of a Form 1006 (available online) to my processing office.

Money was deducted from my credit card and visa granted about a week after I mailed it.

I'd to do a last minute trip, so I applied 2 weeks before departure.
