Help with RRV subclass 155 for one year

My PR visa subclass 176 was granted in July 2010 and will expire in July 2015. The visa was activated in Sep 2010. I only spend around one month in Australia since my PR was granted. I had new baby born in Aug 2012 and granted his visa in March 2013 and will expire in March 2018.
Please advise if I want to apply for RRV subclass 155 for 1 year compiling the following reasons.
My kids enrolled in schools in Melbourne and will start next year studying in Feb 2016
The final school report for my kids - school in Dubai - will be issued in July 2015
I have contractual obligation to complete my job contract in Dubai which is due to complete in Nov 2015
If I am going to purchase new house and land package that I am financing from my job in Dubai therefore I need to complete my job contract in Dubai in order to secure the finance for my home in Australia
I am originally from Iraq and it is quite risky losing my PR visa
Say for example if I apply in 10 April 2015 would the one year period of RRV visa start counting from the expiry date of my current PR visa i.e. 15 July 2015. Or the start date is irrelevant as it is separate visa with separate conditions and start date of the one year will start straight after 10 April 2015 in case if my application is accepted by the department
If the application was not successful and would like to apply for RRV 157 for 3 months visa what are my chances and the same query with respect to start date of the 3 months visa will require clarification. Also how many times I am eligible to apply for the 3 months visa in case if I have my family staying Australia and kids are studying in Melbourne school with my home and utility bills are paid.
What if I continue staying outside Australia after July 2015 and my visa is expired that I use the my younger son visa that valid until 2018 as an excuse to apply for RRV in order to be able to accompany him to enter to Australia

Great thanks

I don't have answers to all your questions but I will try to answer whatever I can:

1. You RRV starts from the date it is granted and not from the expiry date of your PR.
2. I think that immigration decides whether to grant you 1 year RRV or 3 months RRV based on your situation. You do not have to apply separately.
3. In my opinion, if you get a 3 months RRV and then again apply for 3 months RRV without staying in Australia, immigration will not grant it easily. If however, you come to Australia with your family and spend some time here getting them set up, that should help you in the RRV application.

Immigration has got very strict in granting RRV. If you do not stay in Australia and have no immediate plan to relocate, it will be difficult. I was in a similar situation like you and had a cushy job in US which I was reluctant to leave. But in the end, I decided that my Australia PR is more important and I relocated before my PR expiry.
