Received Partner Visa Today!!!

Hi Guys,

Thanks again for the wonderful information and advice. This forum has helped me a lot. I applied for a partner visa roughly two months ago and it has been approved and I received my letter today stating that I am a resident. I was really stunned on how fast it was. I've been reading horror stories of how it can take years but in my case, it was pretty quick. I think the case was pretty straight forward, I've been living with my partner for over 5 years and have documentation to prove it.

Just a tip for anybody who is getting a FBI statement. Go through a third party channel. You pay extra but you get the results in an email and it takes about a week.

Thanks again!

Hey Joakhoa, congratulations!

Could you explain the FBI third party process? Who did you use? We've sent off for ours but in case there are issues reading the ink cards we may need to do it again. Did you apply onshore?

Yes Kangaroolgirl, I applied onshore and did the finger printing at a police station.

I used a company called Nationalbackgroundcheck. I went with the email only response and received my FBI report within a week or so. With my previous visa, I went with the traditional method (directly with the FBI) and it took over 3 months before I received my report! It is well worth paying the extra $$$. Hope that helps.

You should consider yourself lucky that they accepted your FBI check obtained from a Third party.

I am quoting the relevant section from "Character Requirements - How to Obtain a Police Certificate" by DIBP :

"Note: while FBI checks can be obtained through private companies, only FBI checks directly issued by the FBI are accepted by DIAC. "

Wonderful news. Congrats. May I ask which city/state did you apply in?

Yes, as tara.jatt said, DIBP do NOT accept FBI checks through third-party channelers. You're very lucky yours somehow got overlooked. And with most DC applicants waiting 8+ months now, you got very lucky indeed in how quickly you were approved.

I understand but the document I received IS from the FBI and looks identical to my results that came directly from the FBI when I did it the last time. So the document was issued by the FBI which satisfies the DIAC requirements.

I think what you are referring to is having the finger prints checked and approved by a third party channel.

Keywords there are "directly issued by the FBI." I personally wouldn't risk it. Glad it worked out for you, though.
