Post Skilled immigration without qualifications and ACS assessment

Hi again.

As my partner and I have deemed de facto too risky, I am now attempting a skilled migration visa. I have worked as a web developer since 1996 and I'm confident (from reading through the requirements at ACS) that this will qualify me for an SOL as Developer Programmer. If anyone else has gone through the process without formal qualifications, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My background
I have lived in Australia since August 2004, when I came to do a BA of Arts in Film & TV and Advertising at Bond Uni. I completed the degree in 2007 at which point I already had a job in an advertising agency where I worked as web developer and IT manager as well as more creative tasks. I have always been a polymath and both creative and more IT jobs suit me fine. This also explains why I did a BA of Arts rather than something that would have been more useful to me in this process.

Having lived here for six and a half years, needless to say my entire life is here: My friends, my partner, my network and my family (her family). I do not want to leave the country, nor can I really afford to.

Questions about the ACS assessment
  • How much and what type of information is required?
  • Should I give an overview of my interests in computers, programming and how I came to be a developer despite no formal qualification?
  • Should I include ALL information on previous employment and application of my skills?
  • Basically: How much is too much, how much is too little, and how should I balance between overview and detail?

Some questions about skilled migration
  • Do I need to wait for the results of the ACS assessment before I can lodge my application?
  • I have been through several visa processes before: Two student visas, a working holiday (my current visa) and pretty much all the way through up until actually lodging a de facto visa (with a previous girlfriend that fell through in 2007). Never have I been asked to formally prove my English skills and been told that it wasn't necessary as a Norwegian as our high school graduation counts as proof. Has this changed? (English is my second language and read, write and speak it fluently).
  • The immigration website is confusing regarding "offshore" visas such as the 175 that I am applying for. Am I
required to leave the country at any time during the process? If so when and for how long? Or am I eligible for a bridging visa?

As I said I really don't want to leave Australia after six and a half years. It is my home and my life now.

Australia I love you, but your immigration policies are bringing me down…
