Is it alright to submit only days before expiry?

Good afternoon,

A quick question, I cannot ask Immi because they run on NSW time and are now closed! (stupid daylight savings)

Is it fine to submit a 820 (or any visa) the day before the current visa expires? Or do you think it is cutting it too close?

We are nearly done putting together the whole visa (checklists checked thrice!)

My american partners tourist holiday visa ends on Nov 04 2010. - Is it perfectly fine to submit the 820 Nov 03 2010?

When I last called Immi, I was advised the day you PAY for the visa is the day it is submitted.

Hi!

I submitted my application for my spouse visa the day before my student visa expired... I am a last minute person...! :P

I called immigration to ask if there was any problem with being so late, and they told me that as long as you don't lodge the application on the day that your visa expires you are fine.

The bridging visa was issued on the spot.

I hope this helps.

Though as in Tuatha's case it has worked, the general advice from Immi is to do it with a couple of weeks to go.
Obviously you have passed that point and whereas if you lodge the day before, in theory it can go through, you'll not be winning too many friends that way.
btw., you pay at time of application for the application processing and not for the visa.
