Canada Police Check New Electronic Fingerprint Requirement

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any recent experience with getting a Canadian Criminal Record Check? I'm applying for a partner visa and need to have one done as I previously lived in Canada (I now live in the US).

The problem is the RCMP have a new rule about only accepting electronic fingerprints and if you apply from outside of Canada you have to contact an RCMP affiliated company in Canada to convert paper fingerprints to digital fingerprints so that they can be submitted to the RCMP. The dilemma is that it says on the immigration website that you cannot use third party companies to obtain fingerprints.

So...I said well I will just take a trip to Canada to visit some old friends and get my fingerprints done as its not that far away...but the RCMP won't fingerprint me because I'm no longer a resident. Seriously?! I've contacted the RCMP and immigration and neither are helpful on this subject. I would hate to get them and wait to hear back about it only to have to redo them and wait for longer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I was in Canada last August and got my fingerprints done then. The RCMP has several accredited agencies they will accept fingerprints through.

RCMP-Accredited Fingerprinting Companies for Electronic Vulnerable Sector Checks - Royal Canadian Mounted Police

I used one of the ClearNeed affiliates for mine and the fact that I wasn't resident wasn't an issue. I'm not sure if that's because I'm Canadian and carry a Canadian passport and still had my Ontario Drivers License. I'd give a couple of them a call to see if they can take care of this for you. I received my Criminal Record Check about 4 weeks later in the mail (sent to me in Australia).

Thanks maggie-may24!

I wasn't sure if they considered those accredited fingerprinting companies as third party or not but I if they accepted yours then obviously this is a good sign. I will give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks again!
