Anyone who recently got a QLD drivers licence?

Hello all,

I tried applying for a QLD licence a couple of weeks ago but without a paper bank statement (not had one issued yet, asked bank, still haven't sent it) I can't get one. Now I'm almost at the end of the three months allowed on an international drivers licence and I'm going to need to drive soon as we are moving place. Just wondered if anyone recently applied for a QLD drivers licence and if you got it on the spot, or something in the interim, to allow you to drive immediately? I know you used to when they were laminate but not sure now they are proper card style.

Thanks for any help!

Hi
My daughter recently got her licence.
They give you a letter to carry until your licence is posted to you.

Don't worry about it. You can drive on your international license until you get permanent resident or your international license expires. My fiance arrived in February and we aren't going to get his until he gets permanent residence as his license from his country expires in 2018.

Hi Mish...I saw something about that but a couple of members of my boyfriends family have enquired to their insurance companies and they only allow an international licence to be used for the first three months. Unless they misunderstood something. Might get them to double check before I go ahead then as I could do without spending the extra money! Cheers

I would check because my friends wife was told that she had to get a licence because when she married her visa class changed and she was no longer a temporary resident but her visa was indefinite.

Maybe they didn't explain the visa correctly. If they said permanent visa than it changes. My insurance has no problem at all.

I also forgot to say check with Queensland transport, in writing preferably,as they are the ones who administer the law

Indefinite in my book means resident therefore she would need a qld license so that makes sense.

When I asked at qld transport we were told no but are on a pmv so not sure if that makes a difference. They did say not until he becomes permanent.

You are right Mish PMV does not need a QLD licence but it appears to change when you marry and apply for the new visa.
