Partner Visa - When to move to Australia

Hi all,

my husband (Australian) and me (German) are in the process of applying for a partner visa. We have been in a defacto relationship for more than 4 years, so I hope that we will be granted PR straight away. We are currently living and working in Europe.

My question now is, would we have to move to Australia asap (after making an initial entry)? Theoretically, we have five years to move, after that, the resident return visa of the PR will expire. We don't have any specific plans to move in the next year or two, we will move whenever the situation is right (jobs etc).

Will we be required to state in our application when the move will take place? Will it be a disadvantage if we say that we have't "set a date" yet (in particular, regarding the waiver of the two year waiting period).

Thanks, L.

Thanks, Lisa

I do not recall having seen anything like applicants having been asked about nominating when they intended to make a more permanent move and in the absence of that you do not need to advise of future intent.
Visa grants have a latest enter by date nominated and in the case of a partner visa it could still have the wording something like but not before [ the sponsor ].
A resident return visa is separate to the PR and for a resident who has not yet got citizenship and an Australian passport but whose PR visa has expired but wants to take a trip abroad, residency still being valid.
