Traveling Question

Hey guys I recently lodged my application for a subclass 300 visa and my fiance and I are expecting a child in January. I lodged my application on the 12th of November and was charged the 16th, so it may not be granted until March. Reading the thread about the visa timelines and Americans applying for this visa, it seems that it will take up to 4 months for my visa to get granted if it does. So I want to ask if its possible for me to travel to Australia on a holiday visa, which i have, and stay in Australia for 3 months so I can be at the birth of my child and take care of him and my fiance etc. I need to know if this is possible and do I need to send in my passport at some point to get a stamp or sticker indicating my visa 300 is granted?? I hope not cause I need my passport to travel to Australia. I lodged my application with everything requested except for the medical records which I'm just waiting for them to contact me to tell me they need it. Your help would be much appreciated.

I called the Australian Embassy in Washington and they told me I dont have to send in my passport that it will all be done electronically when granted. So Im sure I can go to Australia, after my medical exam and CO is assigned, and stay there until they contact me on my imminent visa decision. Then I would have to go offshore to NZ for a day or two and check my status and hope and pray it is approved! WOOT
