Red face De Facto 820.... mission it is!!!

Hi,

Never knew decision to spend life together in one country could be this hard. My bf is aussie and I am an Asian. None of us wants to leave Australia (my second love) so I need help with my 820de facto visa.

We met in Jan 2013 and since then we are together. Luckily he sent me few emails at work email address which should suffice 1 year relationship requirement.

We live in same address and I have added my name in lease agreement
Question 1 - Do we have to show back dated documents? Is there a requirement that lease agreement or utilities bill should be 3-6 months old before I apply for 820?

Financially, we share joint savings account and he has added me to his credit card account which we use for bills and other expenses. I pay for foxtel bill, share rent via online payment and also contribute to restaurant bills. We don't have joint liabilities or assets.
Question 2 - Is it enough?

We had 4 trips together to which I have receipts and other receipts....

What other documents do I need to provide to prove that our relationship is genuine.... please help

To apply for a de facto partner visa, you need to show evidences for 12-month relationship, with significant amount of time of co-habitation, immediately prior to your application. However, you can consider registering your relationship if it is possible in the state you are living in.

Hi GBP,

Thanks heaps for your quick response. Just to give a bit history so that you can advice me:

We met in Jan 2013, trip together to melbourne in March 2013, he met my parents in April (luckily i have pictures), I moved into his unit in Oct 2013 and started paying him rent since then, trip to melbourne again in nov 2013, trip to gold coast in dec 2013added my name into lease in March 2014 (I have itineraries for travel plus bank statements for rent and groceries money) . Is it enough for 12month relationship requirement?

Hi,

The 12 months means LIVING together, not how long you've been in a relationship. That will mean that it won't be 12 months for you until October this year.

Yes, you do need to show all the proof and documents for that entire year to show that you have been living together.

As GBP said, some people are eligible to register their relationship and waive the 12 months living together, but it depends which state you're in to whether you can do that.

It's 12 months of de facto relationship, so you only began living together since October which is only 6 months ago. You need to demonstrate you have a relationship equivalent to married without the certificate. Look through the various threads on partner visas to get more information on the types of evidence you need to provide.

Hi All,

Thanks for insight. I live in Sydney and we will register for our relationship soooonnnn.
I will also be adding my name to utilities bill by end of this month. How long should I wait before I can use that as an evidence? Do they require back dated documents?

Thanks in advance!!

PS: I wish agents could just interview us as a couple and get over with it

It is a good idea to register your relationship as early as possible. Lucky you're in NSW. You really have to be creative in finding evidence to cover a whole year of living together in a meaningful and committed relationship. Take some time to read posts on relevant threads and you will get lots ideas. Good luck to you both.
