Indian Work experience

I am currently studying Masters in Finance and accounting in Melbourne, I have more than 5 years of work experience in India working in Banks and Non Banking finance companies as Branch Manager , Analyst etc.
With the recent changes in point system, I am not sure whether my Indian experience will be counted if get my skill assessed as Accountant ( as Banking could be a closely related profession) after completion of my course.
Request views on the same.

If you get an occupational assessment based on your study in Australia, it is only experience that occurs after graduation that is counted for immigration purposes.

thanks for your response,
I was referring to the Overseas work experience as per the new point system. As I have more than 5 years of experience in Banking and Financial services in India (overseas) , I wanted to know whether this will be considered relevant experience towards Overseas work experience points after I complete my studies and get my accounting degree (obtained here) assessed based on which I plan to apply for Skilled immigration onshore.

It does not matter where you have worked, if it is before your graduation with a qualification that is assessed, it will not be counted.
Only experience after graduation will be counted.
More information @ Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885) and recent announcements on the What's New Link should also be read.
If you are considering your eligibility for an onshore application because of studying in Australia there is no Overseas Work Experience points for an onshore application in current assessment system.

thanks for your reply.
I am a MBA and doing Masters in Finance and Accounting as further studies.
Can I get my MBA degree(done in India) assessed, can you please suggest me the relevant authority for assessment.
Regarding overseas work experience I am referring to the new point system which will be effective July 2011, where the overall point requirement is 65 and there is some mention of separate points for Australia experience and Overseas experience.

You could consider using your Indian qualification in an offshore application approach and yes with an offshore application there are points for experience, still assessed as post graduation.
Have a look at A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information and you can see what occupation you may be able to consider and check whether it is on the SOL#3 or SOL#4 for State Migration Plans.
You would then be applying for an offshore visa and though you can apply onshore there is no bridging visa available and you would need to travel offshore to have a visa granted.
The new points system to commence from July next year will apply to anyone applying after the introduction and if you were to seek an occupational assessment on your existing qualifications earlier you may have eligibility to apply earlier.
