Medical for partner visa questions

Hey all. I'm from the uk and am about to submit my partner visa application online. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure whether the case officer will ask for the medical at a later date, or whether I should get it done straight away? Also, I've read about needing chest X-rays done for medicals, is this mandatory for everyone, or is it just on request?

Finally, as I'm submitting it all online, will they email me the results to upload or will it be a case of scanning the results and keeping the originals should they be needed?

Such a confusing process but will be totally worth it in the end I'm sure.

Thanks guys in advance

Lewis

Hi there,

We applied for a partner visa through London as well (both based in the UK) and you definitely have to wait to get your medical done.

Once you have a case officer assigned they will let you know when to do your medical (approx 3-4 months after application) and give you the HAP ID required to book it.

If you are applying for a visa that is first temporary then will be considered for a permanent down the line (i.e. the 309/100) you will have to get a chest xray done as this is a requirement for permanent visas and you are basically applying for both the temporary and the permanent visa at the same time (and only have to pay the visa application fee once).

You will never get to see the results of medical. It is an e-medical in the UK so you will only get your HAP ID from your case officer which you use to book the medical. Then there is an online system where you log in using your details and fill out a short questionnaire & print out a referral letter (link will be provided by case officer as well).
After your medical the clinic will upload the results of the medical to the DIPB system.
As far as I am aware you will only be contacted if there was an issue with your results (e.g. if a blood test needs to be redone).

In some cases, you will be able to undertake health examinations before you lodge your visa application. This will enable you to lodge a complete application, which may help to speed up processing of your application. This service is not available in all countries so you should check with the Australian mission at which you will be lodging your application..

If it help, in my case I waited till Co will ask me for medical, As they have instructions what type of test I needed. and they only accept medical results from their panel of doctors. If I were you contact DIAC for clarification. ty

As the OP is applying from the UK (if I read their post correctly) getting the medical done early and frontload it with the application is NOT an option.

To quote the Australian embassy website for London:

Quote:
Clients applying at the London office will be advised of the health requirement once they have lodged an application. It is no longer possible for clients to undertake medicals or radiological examinations before lodging an application.

Hi rhiea....I just read it somewhere in partner booklet. I have no clue how Uk office works as I haven't really try it.. It would be better if they will contact London office for clarification. That's all I can say.

In my experienced I lodge my application first and then wait till they advice me to get medical.

UK applicants should wait until their CO contacts them to have the medicals done. This is usually around the 3-month point from what I've read.

Hi Lewis,

I applied in London in October and got assigned a case officer about 4 weeks after that. They sent me the HAP ID number in November but actually never advised when I should undertake my medical.
So in March I just decided to go ahead and do it. There is only one practice allowed to do the medical checks in London, they have an office in Knightsbridge and one near Oxford street. The medical costs an eye watering 270 and it's a complete check up, including chest x ray, blood test (for HIV testing), urine test, and a general check (quick eye test, blood pressure, etc).
They sent the results directly to the embassy, and as somebody else mentioned they only contact you if there something wrong with your results.

Hope this helps
Good luck with your application!

Thanks chu. 270.... Wow!!!
What about the police checks? As far as I'm aware they only last 1 year, so did you do them before you applied or after?
One last thing, did you apply online? Because I though I read that they want to original police check, which I obviously a problem with the online system. Thanks again,
Lewis

I applied before they introduced the online application system, so I sent everything by post. I had included the police checks (both from UK and Italy as I am Italian) in the original application, and it was all ok.
Let me know if u need anything else!
