I would think one of the first things you ought to do is to check that your PhD award will give you acceptable qualifications for an occupation on either the SOL#3 or for state sponsorship on SOL#4 and that a state has that occupation listed with their SMP.
If either of those is the case you may be able to seek an extension of your student visa to give time until your award is confirmed and then you could look at the 885/886/485 situation.
