Offshore Defacto Visa - Assistance

Hi,
My Partner - Canadian
Myself - Australian
Length of Relationship - 15 months

We met when l was traveling through Canada for 1 week visiting a friend. My travel plans changed after meeting my now partner and decided to stay in Canada. We started living together immediately as we were both working and living in a backpackers hostel. We don't have a rental lease from this time as it was a work for stay program however l do have a statutory declaration from someone we both worked & lived with and is now currently our room mate in the place we live now.

We have a joint bank account of 11 months, flights together, payslips showing we have & still do worked at the same places, numerous stat decs from my family & friends in australia who visited and stayed with us in Canada which my partner has met.

Is it a must to have a rental agreement or am l able to prove with other things like bank statements, payslips, mail sent to the same address etc etc.

We would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance =)

It's not essential to have a rental agreement but you do need good documentary evidence of some sort and if you have had a read of the CAQ in the partner eligibility 12 months relationship requirements you'll see that there is a special example given re travelling.
As for statements, it would be better to get a statement from the hostel management rather than rely on one from an acquaintance.
Have a read of the sticky thread by el kitten and see what ideas you get from that too.
Is the partner young enough for a Working Holiday Visa for Australia and then you could work on getting evidence together.
