Studying Abroad While Visa Is Being Processed

Good day

I applied for a a subclass 820 visa in March 2010, in Sydney. I was planning on living in Australia with my partner for a few years. By November, we still hadn't heard anything, and the only reply we got from the Department of Immigration was that the average processing time was 9 months.

I still haven't heard anything, so I plan to move overseas with my partner, to further my formal education.

If application gets granted when I'm out the country, what will happen? Do I have to return to Australia to get my passport stamped? Will I have a short period of time to return to Australia to get my passport stamped? If I do get my visa, how long can I be out of the country for?

Thanks for any information

You will need to be in Australia to have the visa granted and I'd check again for it is nine months already and the visa grant ought not to be too far away if all is well.
Check the 820/801 details for I'm pretty sure they introduced a change where the PR stage can now be granted while abroad.

You may find you need to return for validation of the PR too.
