Student visa 573 expires in March, can I travel overseas now?

Hi guys,
my student visa 573 expires in March and I'm going to lodge an application for the graduate visa 485 before it expires. Also, I intend to go back to my country from the end of January and be back in mid-February. My question is: should I lodge the 485 visa application before I go back to my country or after I come back here? Also, would I have any problems with the customs at the airport when I come back? I hope that anyone with the experience could help me. Thanks in advance.

Really up to you for when you lodge the 485 but seeing as they seem to take a while, perhaps the earlier the better though you'll get a bridging visa anyway when the student visa expires.
Meanwhile, you can travel out and back in again on your student visa and Customs will only be a problem if you attempt to bring something back in that you shouldn't.

Hi,

Just wondering what had happened to your case?

I'm on the same situation at the moment. I'm a bit wary that if I go overseas a month before my visa expire I'll be refused to enter Australia.

Hope you'll be able to reply to this.

Thanks
