2nd Stage Visa (PR)

Hi guys, came here on a prospective marriage visa two years ago, got married and applied for a TR and PR visa. I was granted TR about year ago, i am aware PR takes usually two years. At the moment i am just playing the waiting game, not heard from immigration yet, just wanna know what is next and whether i am gonna get assigned a case officer, do medicals and police checks before PR gets granted. Views will highly be appreciated

Hi there,

As I understand it, DIAC will send you an information pack when your 2 years is up. They will advise what documents you need to provide and where to send them. If it's been less than a year since you handed in your medicals, you won't need to do them again.

I suggest you look the sticky thread related to second stage spouse applications at the top of the main page of the visas fourm. You should also take a look at the DIAC website for more information about second stage processing.

Unless you are eligible for a waiver, you can't make it faster unfortunately. But always keep DIAC updated about your address!!! They will contact you a bit before the 2 year anniversary of handing in the TR application, and have read about cases when the package arrived even a bit after, but if you still don't receive any news by 2 years of visa grant, contact them! You'll also get a new Medicare card 1 year after the first one was issued. (this showed me that no, they "don't forget" about people )) but apart from this, they didn't contact me during the 2 years. Some may be chosen for a "home visit", though, but guess that's not something you miss. An AFP check is ready in about 2 weeks, and you'd need a new police check from abroad or new medicals only if you were abroad for months or developed a serious illness.
