Congratulations Nelly! I've been waiting for this news.

I remember you applied a month or so after I did, and I recently saw about your partner's illness, it must have been very stressful for you. It's so great now you can both focus on his recovery.

Enjoy your celebrations this weekend.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and wishes. Means so much.

With trying to be together while living on opposite sides of the world, the stressful visa process and my partner's illness we have felt like we've gone through more together in 4 years than some people do in a lifetime. And things are still the same between us - nothing has changed. We're very proud of that

Only now after the grant do we realize how much this was hanging over our heads. Even though things have only changed on paper, the way we experience some things is surprisingly different. We are more relaxed, both in general and to each other, and even more invested in building up our life. I feel like for the past 2,5 years in Australia I've been looking at everything as if I am renting it to be evicted at any time... now suddenly my things are truly mine. Our room is truly ours, our cats are truly ours... no more voices in the back of our mind making backup plans of what goes where if refused.
