We are applying for a GSM subclass 175 visa. My husband is the main applicant - he is a secondary teacher. I teach 16+ and do not think my PGCE will be recognised - or will it? Not sure if i want to pay $450 to find it gets rejected.
Anyway, i will be on my husbands application alongside our three children...if it gets approved, can i work when i get out there?

Yes, as a secondary applicant on a 175 visa you'll have the same full residency rights.
He perhaps ought to have a look at the Whats New Link Info on priorities for processing via Professionals and other Skilled Migrants - Workers - Visas & Immigration and think about looking at a State Nomination for a 176 SMP visa if you're hoping for an earlier rather than later move.

Teaching qualifications in Australia are usually of the degree level and so it'll depend on your PGCE how you would go and if that is not a degree level qualification you may have to consider a supplementary course, a year in a Teacher Training College or whatever to get registered in a particular state.

Thank you.
Just heard from Assessment board AITSL that my PGCE probably will not count for secondary education, so i am looking at TAFE. Do you know if they have a registering body?
My husband is going to get assessed then we will go for the 175 visa so we are not restricted on where to go or for how long.
By the way, the assessment is supposed to take 8-12 weeks, how long roughly do you think the visa will take? The july 1st changes will favour us more by the look of it too so might wait for them to come in to affect.

TAFE Colleges are all over the place, several in Capital cities and usually a presence in main regional cities and it is usually a case of seeing what courses the different ones run and enrolling before the start of an academic year, similar to Uni though with most Uni courses it can be harder to get into them, enrolment to a large extent based on academic performance and that less so with TAFE.
For a guide to processing times you can use Client Service Charter , the problem with a 175 in terms of processing priority is that it will always mean the higher priority Employer Sponsor and SMPs 176 will be ahead and then the 175 applicants with an occupation on the SOL#3 will be taking what is left based on their application dates.
