I'm so confused. My husband's occupation was on the general migration skills list, but has now been moved to the state sponsored list. What does he have to do to get sponsored by the state?

He needs to see which states have his occupation nominated and look at their eligibility requirements and he considers he is likely to meet them, first step is to get his qualifications for his occupation assessed then make and application for state sponsorship.
He will find the individual state lists on the state web sites via. the 176 visa eligibility section via Professionals and other Skilled Migrants - Workers - Visas & Immigration and also a lot of relevant information on the Whats New link via top of that page.
It is also a good idea to research a bit on employment opportunities and what is to be involved in a move to Australia, re cost of living, accommodation etc.
