Your student visa is still showing as current because both the school and you have been dishonest.
It is up to you to decide if you want to risk being picked up re-entering on the student visa or if you want to cancel it, you inform Immi that you are not pursuing study and have it cancelled.
You could then look at applying for a visitor visa for a six days! trip.

Well be offended but
1. You went along with the college not reporting your withdrawal from study if you did so voluntarily
2. It would seem for whatever reason you did not advise Immi of this, maintaining study usually a condition of any student visa and it would seem you knew that by going along with the college lack of action.

What you can do now is contact Immi and look at doing it online may be your best bet, there being Student Visa Processing centres on Student Visa Processing Centres
And if you go the forms listing on the Immi site, in box at left and get yourself a Form 1022, you may be able to use that to send with an email to a processing centre.

It does not matter so much what you left your studies for but that you did.
Like, what were you doing after you left?
Honesty is the best policy and if you start not disclosing the full truth, it eventually catches up with you.

I've got no idea on how Immi may view another application other than in the first instance you'll need to meet all the relevant eligibility requirements.
That you have had a previous visa and then cancelled it at a time much later than when the conditions of it were not being maintained may draw someones attention and it'll be up to them whether they make any enquiries of your previous study.

Yes, you can do a medical in Canada if applying from there.
