Smile Successful Tourist Visa (subclass 600) Application from High Risk Country

I have gotten so much useful information from this forum and all you lovely people who frequent it and I thought it was time to provide an update on our situation and how we achieved a Visitor Visa from a High Risk Country... my turn to pay it forward!

Short Story: De facto couple less than 6 months with a baby due 10 May 2014. We normally resided in Nepal together but I chose to return to Australia for the birth of our baby.

Application: Tourist Visa (sublass 600) - 3 months
Form: Paper
Applicant: Nepal
Australian High Commission: New Delhi

Submitted via VFS Kathmandu, Nepal: 13 March 2014
Received by Australian High Commission, New Delhi, India: 18 March 2014
HAP ID Provided for Medical (Chest X-ray Only): 18 March 2014
Applicant Phone Interview: 1 April 2014 (morning)
My Phone Interview: 1 April 2014 (evening)
Phone Call Requesting Additional Documentation (Bank Statement): 14 April 2014
Visa Approved: 16 April 2014
Arrival to Australia: 23 April 2014
Our Son Was Born: 28 April 2014 (CLOSE CALL!)

Application Included:
Form 1419
Passport Photo
- Certified Copy
Citizenship Card
- Certified Copy
- Translated Copy
Property Certificate
- Certified Copy
- Translated Copy
Letter from Employer
- confirming employment and approved leave
Bank Statement
- Stat. dec. explaining that most business is conducted using cash and this bank account has been used primarily for holiday savings (to explain lack of use prior)
Statutory Declaration
- Reason for applying for visa
Letter of Invitation from Me (de facto partner)
- Cover Letter
- Passport/Visas Certified Copy
- Centrelink Income Statement
- 4x Western Union Transactions (to show financial suuport)
- Letter from GP confirming pregnancy and due date
- 2x Ultrasound Photos
- 2x photos of us together (to prove we have met in person)
- Proposed Travel Itinerary
- Statutory Declaration: applicant is the father of my unborn baby
Letter of Invitation from my parents (whom I currently live with)
- Cover Letter
- 2x Passport Certified Copies
- Proof of Home Ownership
Letter from Applicants Parents
- Confirming Applicant's permanent residency in Nepal, family's residency in Nepal and them inviting us and our baby to come and stay with them upon the end of the Tourist Visa

The New Delhi website currently states that Visitor Visa applications take up to 15 working days to process but don't count on it... ours took longer!

We weren't expecting phone interviews but I am truly grateful that the Case Officer (CO) gave us each the opportunity to plead our case and that she also requested the additional documents when I know that for a tourist visa application they have every right to deny it straight away.

The most important (and most difficult!) thing was proving reason to return to home country. I was so worried that my partner having a partner AND soon a child in Australia would go against our application... I believe you can never provide enough to prove otherwise so be creative!
