Submitted Partner Visa 820/801 Today!!!!

Hey guys just letting you all know my partner and I submitted her partner visa today. It has been such a long and stressful process for us but it's submitted. Just FYI my partner is 19 and from Seattle. We have gathered a bit of information from Facebook posts , photos of our dates, trips to Sydney, movies, beach, etc. We bought a pup together, registered out relationship, joint bank accounts, 6 form 888s and a lot more so we hope we have enough evidence. We started dating in October 2013 and decided we would start on this visa back in January when she decided she wanted to stay. All we need to add is the medical/form 80 which we will add in a couple weeks.

I just want to say a big thanks to everyone on this forum and especially to CollegeGirl & Star Hunter for the advice they have given me over the months. It's a long hard stressful process (well for us anyway) but well worth it in the long run just fingers crossed it gets approved!!!!

First of all, congratulations on submitting your application! It's totally stressful getting everything necessary together to satisfy all the requirements, it must feel great being done with it all!

I actually have a quick question. From what I understood after reading information posted on the immigration website, a partner visa is required to show there has been an ongoing relationship for a minimum of 12 months. I know your post says you've been dating for 9 months, but when did you register as a couple in a relationship?

I'm applying for the same visa, and have been with my partner for about two years. We never registered as a couple (It's on Facebook when we started dating, but I'm not sure that will suffice…). I'm just trying to get as much evidence as I can together, and was wondering if registering right before I lodge my application would look suspicious at all, or maybe not even help as evidence?

Thanks for any help or insight anyone can give me!

What state are you in?
Not every Australian state allows relationship registrations and in some it's harder than in others. It doesn't look suspicious to register shortly before applying, you can apparently even submit the relationship certificate after visa lodgement. Keep in mind that there might be a "cooling off" period until you actually get your relationship registered, in NSW it's 28 days after applying for it. I don't think Facebook will suffice, frankly I didn't attach any FB "evidence" even though we've got some things on it, because I just don't think it's good evidence, but that's just my personal opinion.

Jamie,

Congrats on finally submitting your application and all the best to you.

Sampa,

In the eyes of immigration what they view as a defacto relationship is living together like a married couple would for a minimum of 12 months and i am certain they are very strict about the 12 months rule. The only exception to waive the 12 months is if you have a child together, married or have registered your relationship in one of the Australian states. And depending on which state the rules are slightly different, If you do not have either of this or have been living together for 12 months they only consider the couple as "dating" and not defacto.

It is easy to register your relationship in NSW all you need is proof of id and proof that you both reside in NSW and you can even submit the registration certificate after application of your partner visa.

but if you live in Victoria it is difficult as you would also need to prove that you both have been living in Vic for at least 12 months.

Applying for partner visa is more complicated and complex than most people see it. It is not just about 2 people in love and wanting to stay in Australia. If you look around this forum you will find most cases where couples have submitted an extensive list of evidence. i.e (bank statements, wills, lease agreements, payment of utilities, etc)

Good luck

lildevil872, thanks for the advice!

My partner and I have been together for 2 years. For the past year or so, we've shared a bank account, have a sufficient amount of plane tickets from visiting one another and taking holidays, movie tickets, etc. We're also planning to share a mortgage in the next few months as well.

I think registering as a couple will definitely be something we'll make a point to do, though!

starlight, we live in Queensland. I heard registering for a relationship isn't too hard there.

And I get what you mean about the Facebook evidence. I'm not sure I'll be including anything from there either.

Yeah, I heard it's pretty straight forward in Queensland. Good luck
