Post anyone who have experience in changing the maiden to married name for the 2nd stage?

Hello,

Is anyone have an experience like mine? I have received my papers for the second stage processing spouse visa but I am confused on what name should I use?

On my first application, I used my maiden name. When I arrived here in Australia I used my married name in all of my documents such as Medicare, TFN, Joint Bank Accounts, Utilities, except my passport which is still under my maiden name. What name should I write on my the stat dec and my husband's stat dec? how about the name on character assessment? Do I need a paper/document to prove that the maiden name I was using before and married name I am using now belong to one person? I only have a certificate of marriage.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Ricka

Your passport is your official document when it comes to a visa and for a visa application you should use what your passport says.
A marriage certificate is the only necessary link to show variation in maiden/marriage names.

Hi ricka,

could you please tells us what they told you to do??

It would help me a lot. My wife is waiting for her temp spouse visa to be granted, but we have applied in her maiden name, as we started our application before we where married. Now we are wondering if we should try and change her passport and temp spouse visa in to her married name or just leave it as is, in her maiden name.

The reason we are not wanting to make the jump now is that even passport agents are quoting 35 days minimum for a new machine readable passport in her married name. There is a big problem with passports being issued at the moment in philippines, so we are hoping it will be ok for her to just travel here (australia) on her maiden name and do what you have done. Otherwise we could have a major delay waiting for a new passport and then getting the visa altered in to her married name.

Can you tell me a bit more about your experiences having your visa in your maiden name? Did it make things hard signing up for TFN and medicare etc?

How easy was it to change your permanent visa in to your married name?

Thanks Peter

Upon securing a new passport while your application is on process, you may just update the embassy by submitting a copy of it and completing form 929 (Change of address and/or passport details).

Hi, my name is Lelit jackson, i am new member here i join this forum hoping to get some advice coz i really confuse about my situation to my husband..my husband and his exwife are business partner before he get divorce he have 1 son,....when i come here last july 15,2010 the business still going and i got a job in Shangrila Hotel in cairns before we get married so my TFN and my Bank account same in my Passport name....right now my husband is facing a bankcruptcy we got married last dec.2,2010 he got job here in minning peak downs and we move here in moranbah....a few months later i got another job in peak downs too so our situation is not that really struggling bec. we are both working and have a good income...i ask my husband that i want to change my status coz i am married now coz until now i am still using my name bec. thats in my passport i ask him many times that that i want to change my TFN status into my married name and everything that i have but his reason he is getting bankcrupt and we can change it later after the bankcruptcy is finish i slowly find out before that he still have the joint account with his exwife and thats really hurt for me to know so i ask him to close whatever he have with his exwife...i have some question here to ask and hoping i can get some answer....

first, if i want to change my TFN status into my married name will i get bankcrupt too when my husband is finally getting bankcrupt? how can i be affected of changing my name into my married name while he is getting bankcrupt?

Will i get bankcrupt too when my husband is getting bankcrupt if i change my name everything that i have even i am not part of his business before?

About his TFN i recieved his return tax and he said he cant have it bec. he have to pay that to his accountant and i ask him whats the accountant for and he rreplied to me that his business accountant so i keep asking him to explain to me coz i dont understand it..i ask him if the bankcrupt is finish then u dont have to pay the accountant anymore but he said no...coz thats his accountant...my question is When u have TFN you have also a personal accountant that u always have to pay everytime u get your return tax? i just wanna make sure that his exwife is not part of it....once u are divorce and re-married is that mean that his exwife have no right at him at all....its really hard to adjust the situation here in australia....

Until here i hope i can get some advice ... thanks

Cheers
Lelit

Hello Peter:

I got married in Philippines. When I applied for temp visa I used my maiden name. All the documents and passport are all under my maiden name, only I supplied the marriage certificate to prove that I am married to my sponsor. When I arrived here in Australia I applied for TFN, Medicare, joint bank account, utilities using my married name, I only show them my passport as well as my marriage certificate, it was that easy. When I received the papers from the immigration I was confused because my passport is under my maiden name, they send me a form (1022) notification of changes in circumstances and they advised me to get new passport using my married name. I applied a new passport in Phil Consul and it took 13 weeks to get the new one so I submitted my papers to the 2nd stage processing center very late

Just leave as it is because it is pain in the ass changing all the documents. If I were you, when your wife is in Australia, tell her to get a new passport under her married name so it will be a lot easier when you get your papers for second stage processing.

Goodluck!

Ricka
