Should not be an issue of being unemployed for a partner visa.
The DIBP are not concerned about your income, they are concerned about the genuineness of the relationship.

For perspective - I was unemployed for about 2 years when I traveled the world, and I am sponsoring my fiancÚ for a PMV 300.

As for documents, what do you have currently ready to sumbit? A quick search of partner visa check list on this forum will be of help, or re-reading the DIBP partner visa booklet.

Hi all,

I'm British and my partner is Australian, currently living in the UK. Application for 309 is submitted as with my medical and police checks. No CO/contact as of yet.

Couple of questions I was wondering if anyone could help with:

Is it common for a sponsor to be asked to complete police checks?

Am I able to travel to Australia on a visitor visa and wait until my 309 is granted? I've seen a few posts about this but haven't seen any concrete info on whether or not it's possible or advised.

Thanks

yes it's a relatively new requirement for a sponsor to supply police check on request. they're mostly looking for instances of domestic violence if they find you have a record of that they can tell your partner. yes you can travel to aus while waiting for partner visa just inform DIBP and they will advise you when you should leave the country so they can finalise the visa (ie grant or refuse visa). you can't be granted a visa subclass 309 while you're in the country.

Has anyone that applied in August been assigned a Case Officer yet? I've spotted some get them sooner than others, anyone know why? Also, how do you know when one has been assigned?

Applied start of August, no CO yet, but from what I have gathered not everyone gets connected with a CO.
