Hi everyone,
I've been following this thread for a while. Now that we've got our visa I thought I'd let you know how the process went for us.

1. Application lodged in December 2017 from Malaysia (Partner is from the Philippines).
2. All Police Checks uploaded by January 2018.
3. Status changed to 'Initial Assessment' in March 2018.
4. Sent a letter to local MP on 1st August, 2018 about the unreasonable processing times of 23-26 months. Representations were made to the Minister for Home Affairs.
5. CO (in Malaysia) requested Medical check and AFP check for sponsor on 24th August, 2018 with a 28 day deadline.
6. All checks were uploaded by 4th September, 2018.
7. Found and clicked the "I confirm I have provided information as requested" button in ImmiAccount on 24th September, 2018. Status changed to 'Further Assessment'.
8. 309 visa & 100 visa (we've been together for more than 10 years) granted on 26th September, 2018.
9. Partner has to enter Australia before 31st October, 2018 as that is when one of the Police Checks expires.

Good luck to the rest of you!

I’m not sure what you mean. I got a request for medical and a reference number and when I went to have medical done they had the request on their system and now my medical shows as cleared and no further action. Surely that means I’ve completed medical and it’s been signed off. I know it was automatic and not from a CO but surely it still counts. Can I ask if anyone else applied in Feb 2018 or around then and what their timeline looks like?

Also can I ask does everyone get a CO or do some people skip that and just get their visa?

Yes, that's what a passed medical will look like. What I mean is, when you first applied, did the request to do the medical come from a CO like in an email? If not, what you saw was the notification that everyone that applies gets in their immi account straight away. It leads you to answer some questions and print out the form that you take to the exam.

It doesn't matter if you did it without being requested. It's still valid for 12 months. I just wanted to clarify that when you said you got requested to do the medical immediately, people usually confuse that with an actual request from a CO, not an automated notification simply because a health exam is required. So when immigration recommends waiting until requested, what they mean is an actual person notifying you to do it. They only say that though because it's only valid for 12 months, so if you do it on your own and the 12 months passes, you'll likely have to redo the medical.

Everyone gets a CO as someone has to process their application. But not everyone will hear from them. If everything is supplied and valid when they go to process an application, then the only correspondence one might have with immigration is the grant letter.

Is there anyway to tell if a CO has looked at your file? Will the status change? Or will the 'Last Update' date online change?

Status is probably one way. Contact from them another. I've had grants where my status never changed (or if it did it was only for a few hours and I just didn't see it) and no contact.
