Please update your flag here .

We applied for our partner visa from Tokyo, my wife is Japanese (married over 5 years) and we have a 4 yo son who recently was granted his Australian citizenship.

So far we have attached the health check and criminal background check for my wife and the application was received in October 2018. I have also lodged the details for the sponsor section.

Any ideas on how long it might take from Tokyo?

.....and to be clear we uploaded all other documents like photos, evidence of identity, evidence of relationship ect ect. The only thing missing is my criminal background check as the sponsor but it does not specify if that is necessary, going to do it now anyway just to save time in case they ask later.

Welcome Nayt, I haven’t seen others posting from Tokyo in this thread but maybe search and see if there is a specific conversation? Sponsors definitely need a police check as well, so I would get and add to application

Thanks Waiting4eva, I should have done a search before making the post, looks like about an average 6 month wait from Japan/Korea. I applied for my Australian background check today and will sort out the Japanese one this week.

Cheers

It is almost for more than a month it shows approved.

Is it positive thing or it means nothing?
It could be a positive thing as they seem to be approving the sponsor ahead of looking at/finalising the applicant's grant.

My partners visa was granted on Friday! Less than a week after me having to move home and start long distance, so we couldn't be happier and more relieved.

Our timeline:
Defacto since April 2017
Applied from the UK May 8th 2018
Medical and sponsors birth certificate requested November 1st 2018
Medical completed November 7th 2018
We updated our application with new evidence unprompted on January 15th 2019
309 granted January 18th 2019!

In total just over 8 months

Reading this forum has been so helpful and reassuring, thank you to everyone who contributes.

I just updated my app with evidence of my holiday with my partner and her family. Unprompted also, hope it is an omen!

Any idea how long it takes for visa to be granted after your interview has been done?

It's really hard to say. Some people receive the grant within hours or a few days after; some wait months. However, it's definitely a good sign though! Fingers crossed for you that you get a grant soon.
